Mentorship in Motion: Inside My PMI Mile Hi 1:1 Experience
This past spring, I had the chance to be part of the PMI Mile Hi 1-on-1 Mentorship Program—a 6-month digital experience that blended structure, creativity, and meaningful connection. As a mentor, my goal was to support my mentee’s personal and professional growth, share what’s worked for me, and co-create something valuable along the way.
We kept things flexible but intentional. From bi-weekly to monthly check-ins over Zoom and Google Meet, we used our time to deep-dive into short-term and long-term goals, PMI and PMP methodologies, project management tools, and sometimes just talk about the real-life stuff that doesn’t fit neatly in a Gantt chart. Having a plan helped—but leaving room for creativity and conversation was where the magic really happened.
One of the biggest highlights? The custom Trello Kanban board that was created to guide our mentorship journey. It was inspired by the All In PMP Prep program I went through with Scott Payne and his incredible team—huge shoutout to them for shaping how I approach learning and development today.
The Trello board became our digital hub. We tracked progress, stored key resources, and built out a flow that felt more like a collaborative project and less like a checklist. It was helpful to keep communication flowing in-between check-ins and the Trello app made it simple to do while on the go. It included everything from program goals and action items to space for weekly wins and career reflections. I’ll be including screenshots in this post if you're curious to see how it all came together—spoiler: color-coded goodness ahead.
What I loved most about this mentorship experience was how energizing it felt. Whether you're a seasoned PM or just getting your footing in the field, programs like this one keep you learning, expanding, and plugged into a community of professionals who get it.
If you’re considering joining as a mentor or mentee through PMI—or just looking to bring more structure and spark to your own growth journey—I can’t recommend it enough. You don’t need all the answers. You just need curiosity, a solid Wi-Fi connection, and a willingness to show up.
Huge thanks to the PMI Mile Hi team for making this possible—and to all the project managers along the way who’ve sparked ideas, shared wisdom, and reminded me how creative this field can be. And to my mentee: thank you for being such a committed, thoughtful, and inspiring partner in the process.
Stay tuned for a peek inside the Trello board and how we used it to bring this mentorship to life and more to come on my next mentorship journey that kicks-off this month!
